Taking a budget holiday can feel like a tough thing to do, but we’ve gathered together some top tips for keeping your budget down when you’re holidaying in Majorca, and we think that if you follow these, you should have a fab time while still keeping the costs low enough that you won’t be worrying about running up debts.

Travel at the right time.

Pick the time of year, the day of the week, and the time of your flight well and you could save quite a bit of cash. For example, if you fly late at night or very early in the morning on a weekday it can sometimes be cheaper than flying during the daytime on a Saturday or Sunday. The season is important too, visiting anywhere during their peak season is generally more expensive, so if you can, opt to go either outside the holiday peak season, or at the very end or beginning of it at least to get the best prices.

Go for all inclusive or self catering
Theses two might sound like they’re at either end of the spectrum, but actually they can both work out much better than the alternatives. With self catering you avoid being charged for meals you don’t want, and you may not get the luxury, but buying food in the local supermarket is a lot cheaper anywhere than it is to eat out all the time. All inclusive will cost more, but if all your food, drinks, and even much of your entertainment is part of the cost you do know up front exactly what you’re spending which can make budgeting much easier.

Use the bus, bike or go on foot
Hiring a bike is quite a cheap option in many resort areas in Majorca and the buses are fairly inexpensive as well, so avoid paying for expensive taxi’s by going one of these routes when you can. Walking of course is free, and much of the time if you’re staying in a resort close to the beach you won’t need to go far so this option can be a good one.

Step off the tourist highway

Like with most places, there are some parts of Majorca which are tourist driven and some which are aimed more at the locals. Step away from the tourist areas and seek out pubs, cafes, bistros and restaurants that are off the main streets and you’ll often find they’re cheaper.

Take it with you don’t buy it
Things like batteries for your camera, suntan lotion, and other easily forgotten bits often set us back a fair few quid while we’re away. Make a list of all the things like this that you will need while you’re away and then make sure you pack them. Watch out for your weight limits though particularly if you’re flying with a budget airline!
Ask around first & look online
Before you go away, have a good nosey online and find out what things will cost, and what people recommend and what they don’t. Others have been here before you, and this way you can make a note of some of the cheaper, better value and free things that you could do while you’re away.
