In the middle of the agricultural plains of Mallorca there’s a small hill on which is located the town of Randa. It is a place where time seems to have stood still, where streets radiate peace and tranquility, where the countryside has its own special mystic enchantment. This small village, with its serenity and silence, is the ideal retreat to unwind for a few days, to become immersed in the rest-full environment and to rediscover a bygone life of calm.

In the centre of the island of Mallorca, between Algaida and Llucmajor, is the mountain of Randa. The slopes of the mountains there are forests of pine and traces of oak. However the valleys are covered with wild areas and cultivation of almond trees, of olive and carob. Among the fauna are the African hedgehog , the dormouse , the weasel , the robins and theraven. To gain access to the mountain, people must approach via small village of Randa at the foot of the mountain of the same name, and follow the roads that lead to the top of the puig de Cura.

These days pilgrims to Randa are as likely to be weekend cyclists in search of a challenge, as they are seekers of religious truth. The winding road to the summit leads to three separate hermitages. The lowest, Oratori de Nostra Senyora de Gracia, is the first sanctuary that you encounter on your way up the mountain of randa, by way of a tar road to the right. This little sanctuary dates to the 15th century, and its church is tucked away in a 40 meter wide natural cave. Just over 1km further up the main peak road, again to the right, you’ll find the Santuari de Sant Honorat, founded in 1594 by Arnau Desbrull. Finally, in the peak of Randa is the site of the Santuari de Nostra Señora de la Cura, a substantial complex surrounded by substantial stone walls where Llull lived. In the late afternoon at sunset, it is particularly breathtaking and we recommend you taking photos. The monastery also offers the possibility of an overnight stay as well as a restaurant with a beautiful view of dozens of villages, cities, plantations and fields. The rooms are studios apartments with little kitchens. Most of the apartments have little terraces with a beautiful panorama over the bay of Palma de Mallorca towards the south west and bay of Alcudia towards the north east.

Apart from the historic buildings and museum, if you enjoy, open virgin beaches, different from the tourist
setups where you usually spend your holidays, you most come to “ES TRENC” which is just 12.69 miles from Randa city center. This track of coastal land on Mallorca is formed by several kilometers of sandy beaches with its original flora and is the only one of its kind remaining in a pure state on Mallorca. We suggest that you enjoy a full day in the clean, transparent waters.

The town of randa is definitely worth a visit all year round. The blossoming almond trees in February let you forget the passed winter. Swimmers and other water fans will enjoy a visit most between May and September. However even in November the water temperatures are still around 20°C.

A weekend break in this peaceful land is definitely worth full for relaxing with your family. Get ready to enjoy this weekend!
