Majorca has been making wine since the Romans inhabited the island. Until very recently has it earned its reputation as a quality serious wince producer. There are around 30 cellars on the island with a combined 2500 hectares in total between them. Most of the islands wine production is sold in restaurants and hotels on the island.

Native wine varieties include – Manto, Fogoneu, Negro and Callet, but other internation varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon are grown on the island.

One of the best wineries is Anima Negra which makes red wine. Other wineries include: Bodegues Ribes, Bodegues Macia Batle, Finca Son Bordils and Jaume de Puntiro (which is an organic vineyard).
