Fun things to do in Palma, Mallorca

When you go on a summer holiday, the main aim is to have a good time away from the stresses of work and home life, so why not do the fun things that are available rather than wandering round old churches in the blistering heat?

Palma is a Catalan region of Mallorca, where the locals will speak predominantly Catalan, although you will be understood if you speak Spanish. Located in the south west of Mallorca, Palma enjoys a warm Mediterranean climate with temperatures around 28°C in the summer months, making it an ideal holiday location.

There are often cheap holiday deals to Mallorca, especially if you are prepared to travel at short notice, so why not consider it as a location for your next holiday? We have compiled a list of the best things to do in Palma while you’re on holiday in Mallorca, all with a fun theme to them; the type of things you can’t always do at home.

Helicopter tours of Palma

There are tours of the island available by helicopter, where you can see the Traumuntana Mountains of the Balearic Isles, fly over celebrity’s houses or along the coastline of Mallorca to view the island from above.

There are even flying lessons available if you wish to try your hand at flying a helicopter (and if you can afford it – lessons don’t come cheap!).

Canyoning

For adrenalin junkies, this is the one for you. Canyoning tours take you through the Sierra de Tramuntana, where you will be running through waterfalls, climbing through rocky ridges, abseiling down cliff faces, sliding down alleys and jumping off rocks into pools to make your way across the challenging course.

The day finishes with a speedboat ride across the Med as you sit back and enjoy the sun. For more information visit Mondaventura.com

Western Water Park

Western Water Park has 14 slides and rides to accommodate everyone, from the daring and willing to jump down any slide to those who just want to sit back and chill out for a while.

The star attraction at Western Water Park is ‘The Beast’ – a kamikaze slide with a 30 metre drop before you plunge into the pool at the bottom. For the less adventurous, there’s a black hole slide; the longest in Mallorca, the mega slide; a 260 metre slide that you go down on a raft, the tornado, the hurricane, racing slides and river rapids. There’s also a large Jacuzzi pool for you to catch your breathe and stop your pulse from racing before you take on the next slide.

Nemo Submarine trips

Great for a family trip, Nemo submarine trips start from Magaluf, just a short drive from Palma. After a 20 minute boat ride, the submarine plunges to a depth of 20 metres where you can watch fish swim by as you sail through the water. There are opportunities to get photos of shipwrecks, and a show is put on by experienced divers who feed the fish, before taking you back to the shore.

Scuba diving

There are many companies on the island that offer scuba diving courses and trips, with introductory sessions from instructors who teach you about the equipment used, before whisking you off by boat to a quiet bay to start diving.

More experienced divers will get to see underwater landscapes, caves and shipwrecks. There are also snorkelling trips available at a reduced rate, where you can still see fish and other marine life. Prices range from between 30 € – 60€ depending on how many dives/what package you go for.

Kayaking

Sticking with the water theme; sea kayaking trips are also available around Mallorca, offering you the chance to go out to sea as you paddle along the coastline on a kayak under tuition. Costs vary from between 30 € to 45€ depending on which route you plan to take.

Medieval show

In the royal court of King Sancho, a medieval show takes place to entertain the masses. Featuring knights, horses, battles, jousting, choreographed dance and musical numbers, along with a 3 course feast for dinner. There is some audience participation, so if you don’t want to be involved then try not to sit too near to the front! Below is a video preview of the show:

As you can see, holidays don’t have to be about lazing round at the beach, seeing old buildings or wandering round looking for things to do; there’s plenty of fun activities on offer in Palma, so what are you waiting for?
