Car rentals will either take unleaded petrol (sin plomo) or diesel (gasoleo). Petrol stations are normally open 6am to 10pm and closed on Sundays. You will be able to find larger self service ones that operate 254 hours a day as well though.
It is worth highlighting that in the mountain area there are very few petrol stations so you make sure you have a full tank before you set off.
