C’an Picafort could be described as a scaled down version of Puerto Alcudia and the southern tip of C’an Picafort – Son Baulo is package holiday central with many hotels and restaurants geared up for mainly German tourists.
C’an Picafort was originally a small fishing village that exploded in size throughout the 1960′s. Not much is left of the original village but it does retail a working harbour where a number of tourist boats operate from.
The resort has the usual pedestrian promenade running alongside the beach which is lined with bars and restaurants. In addition to this there are numerous ageing 1970′s apartment and hotel blocks that could do with a fresh coat of paint.
If you are looking for a drink then there are plenty grouped together around Avinguda de Josep Trias, there are also a couple of discos there too.
The main Majorcan residential area of C’an Picafort is Santa Margalida around 10km from them main tourist area. If you are interested in archaeology this area of Majorca is blessed with the largest concentration of historical sites on the whole island. If you fancy getting away from C’an Picafort and visiting one of the other nearby resorts is very easy – there is a a frequent bus service around the coast which runs throught Alcudia to Playa de Muro and onto C’an Picafort. A single journey costs just over 1 euro.
