Cala d’Or is a resort area in south east Mallorca, it is part of the municipal district of Santanui and is about 40 miles east of Palma. Holidays here are for people who want to spoil themselves, and Cala d’Or’s wonderful horseshoe shaped cove is one of many small but beautiful beaches in the area, each of which is blessed with white sands and blue sea, and they are the perfect place for you to laze away the days with the sun warming your back.

In August the area is awash with the fun of the Fiesta de la Mare de Deu del Mar which takes place here on or around the 15th of the month. The highlight of the Fiesta is the maritime procession around the harbour, but many concerts and various sporting events are involved as well.
Cala d’Or is not as filled with bustle as some resorts in Mallorca, life here takes a more sedate pace and many visitors enjoy sipping coffee whilst watching the boats at the marina after a gentle meander through the local boutiques and markets.
For those who want a little more involvement, it’s possible to hire a yacht for the day, or take a trip out on a glass bottomed boat to see the marine life that lives locally. On some of the beaches here people can sunbathe in the nude, but some are more family oriented, so it’s worth remembering this, and checking which beaches are suitable for this and which aren’t before you visit them.
If you fancy hiring a car for the day, you might like to visit the Castillo de Santueri which sits high above the village of S’Horta near Cala d’Or. Alternatively you could take a look at the Caves of Cuevas del Drach and Cuevas Hams which can be explored and are famous for their unusual formations. At Cuevas Hams there is also a marvellous underground lake which is quite something to see. Another place worth a visit, and a little way to the south of Cala d’Or is the national park of Mondrago, this area of heritage is a wonderful glimpse into the life that used to be Mallorca, with it’s unspoilt fishing village and sleepy atmosphere.
Overall, Cala d’Or is a great place for a really relaxing holiday, somewhere that you can rest assured you will be able to chill out and slow things down. It’s got plenty available nearby for days out when you want them and many wonderful secluded beaches just a little way round the coast if you don’t fancy the main beaches.
